RAZORBACK IS RAISING THE BAR FOR EAGLE SCOUTS
Beginning January1, 2009 Razorback District will no longer accept hand written Eagle Scout Project Workbooks or applications. In this world of technology there is no longer reason to handwrite these documents. If you do not have a computer, some suggestions are to use a friends, relatives, or neighbors, go to the public library, or use the computer that is available at the Springdale Scout Shop.
Both of these documents are available to fill out on-line, save and copy. Go to www.razorbackscouts.org, click on RESOURCES and then EAGLE RANK ADVANCEMENT RESOURCES. The links are there for you to access the forms along with step by step instructions for your path from Life to Eagle. Please read everything thoroughly. If you make mistakes please correct them and print a new copy. No more white out.
The rank of Eagle is recognized by the United States Government. You automatically get a highter rank and pay in the Armed Services if you are an Eagle Scout. This rank does not come easy and much is expected to meet the standards that society expects from an Eagle Scout. Anything less diminishes the credentials of not only the scout but of all Eagle Scouts and the scouting movement in general. Take pride in what you have accomplished.
Your paperwork is the first impression of you that the members of your Eagle Board have. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression and sometimes that first impression is pretty hard to shake.
Remember - Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it.

YEAR END ADVANCEMENT REPORTING
All advancements earned in a calendar year must be entered through the on-line advancement process by the end of December of that calendar year.
If you have a Court of Honor in March for awards earned sometime the year before, they will never show up on an advancement report if entered after the end of the year as reports are closed and date sensitive. It is very important for your troop, your district and your council to have accurate advancement figures. If you don't have good advancement figures you will have commissioners and me knocking on your door. You don't have to purchase the awards in December, just have them all entered. I know its one more thing but its very important. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!
Yes, it's MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR REGISTRATION TIME!! Don't everyone cheer at once.
Okay, here are the guidelines(nice word for requirements)
BIG REQUIREMENT - COMPLETED FORMS ARE DUE JANUARY 15, 2009
- EVERYONE must fill out two forms every year (even if you have filled them out before) They are:
Adult Application - #28-501F - pay close attention to this number (these are new forms), it is in the bottom left of the front of the form. These are available at your scout shop.
No old forms will be accepted.
Fill them out completely.
Your signature is the only one required.
This is considered a district position so even if you filled one of these out for a troop position, you need to fill another one out.
In the boxes marked position code, you will put "42" and under scouting position put "merit badge counselor".
Submit the top copy marked "local council copy" the others are for your records.
Merit Badge Counselor Information Sheet - #34405
These are available at the scout shop or go to www.westarkbsa.org click on forms, national BSA forms, and then to Merit Badge Application.
They must be filled out completely
Please fill out a fresh form each year, not copies from years past with old dates, contact info, etc.
Please make copies for your troop and personal records - it would also be a good idea to enter your info on Troopmaster - it will give you great reports at your fingertips.
Both forms need to be submitted together.
Both forms need to be dated after January 1, 2009
BOTH FORMS ARE DUE BY JANUARY 15, 2009
All Merit Badge Counselors are to be Youth Protection Trained
All Merit Badge Counselors need to be trained(it doesn't take long I promise)(every scout deserves a trained leader)
go to www.westarkbsa.org
click on training
scroll down to Merit Badge Counselor Training and click!(it's just a few pages to read)
Ways to have your application rejected:
- If you send in only one form
- If your forms are incomplete
- If you don't pass the background check
- If they are dated the wrong year
- If you use old forms
Registration Suggestion:
- Contact all your adults (not just leaders)
- Set a time for everyone to register at one time (a troop meeting works best)
- Pass out both forms to each adult
- Before you hand them into the Scout Shop, make sure everything is correct and complete
- Make copies of everything before you hand them in so you have these records for your troop files
REMEMBER - the only way a merit badge can be taken away from a scout that has met all the requirements and has been awarded the badge is if he earned it under a non-registered merit badge counselor. Please register.
A BIG THANK YOU for your cooperation. I know it seems like a lot but I wouldn't ask you to do anything that I'm not planning to do myself. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
