Be Ready For Your Leadership Position!
Join us for a fun and informative training for Tiger, Cub an Webelos Leaders, as well as committee members. EVERY boy deserves a trained leader and ever LEADER deserves to be trained!
**Attention**
"This is Scouting" is a new online training session that replaces New Leader Essentials. This training session is available through the E-Learning Portal of MyScouting. You will need your Scouting Membership ID number. If you don't have a card, call the council office and get it: 1-800-748-8509. This is the first step for all leaders (Cub, Boy Scout and Venturing), on the way to becoming trained.
ABOUT Basic Leader Training
Basic Leader Training is designed to give position-related information to all adult leaders in Cub Scouting. Building on the foundation established in Fast Start Training, Basic Leader Training goes into greater detail.
Basic Leader Training has two parts:
This Is Scouting is for all new leaders in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. It is an online interactive learning experience that is divided into six modules. It picks up where Fast Start left off and introduces participants to the following areas of the Scouting program: Mission, Vision, and Values; Programs for All Ages and Abilities; Scouting Is Fun!; Scouting in the Community; Protecting Our Youth; and Scouting’s Legacy.
Leader Specific Training gives a leader the knowledge and skills needed for a specific position. Leader Specific Training is available for the following positions in Cub Scouting:
- Tiger Cub leader
- Cub Scout den leader and assistant
- Webelos den leader and assistant
- Cubmaster and assistant
- Pack committee members
Basic Leader Training goes into greater detail on youth development and boy behavior, program planning, activities, and the purposes of the program. It is usually presented in one or two group sessions, but can be delivered to small groups or even individuals through personal coaching.
Every Cub Scout leader should complete Basic Leader Training; it prepares leaders to deliver a quality, fun-filled program. Leaders who understand the whys and hows of the program are more effective in their roles. They know how to use available resources to provide an exciting and worthwhile program for boys. Trained leaders have confidence in carrying out their responsibilities and, along with the boys, have more fun. |

Great Topics Available in Supplemental Training Modules!
Supplemental training modules are designed to provide orientation beyond the basic training offered in New Leader Essentials and leader-specific training. Each module is a unit of training that can be used as an outline for a group, for personal coaching, or for self-study. Most of the outlines should require about an hour to complete. Consider each unit of study to be an introduction to the subject. Scouters are welcome to download subjects that are of interest for personal or unit use. There are no training credits associated with the completion of these units of study. Additional training units are being developed and will be continually added to this site.
